On the Assembly Line: Full Long Gunners w/ UA

March 19th, 2012

After an exemplary showing in a 25-pt tournament, I felt the Long Gunners deserved to be up next for paint.  They set up on top of a hill turn one with pStryker providing Snipe and proceeded to make dual-shots all game long taking down a number of support models.  At 25-pts I had only used the minimum unit of 6, but I have 10 and the UA, so for consistency I wanted to paint them all at once.  I still haven’t decided for sure if this was a mistake.  Painting 12 models at once is a little much and it’s hard to feel like progress is being made.

Cygnaran Hunter

March 13th, 2012

The Cygnar Hunter is one of my favorite ‘jacks. He sports an almost reptilian stance, like a predatory dinosaur on the hunt. His face has a bit of a mean, aggressive look to it, while the top of the chassis has a refined aerodynamic feel.

When it comes to the game one of the biggest distinctions the Hunter has is Pathfinder. I wanted to embrace this as I based him to give it the feel that he wasn’t just out on a flat battlefield, but he was in rough terrain, on the hunt. I decided to have him just coming down a bank and stepping into a forest stream.

On the hunt.

Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator

February 27th, 2012

Reinholdt has been completed for some time, at first waiting for varnish and basing, then waiting to be uploaded.  He’s very useful in the game for getting your ‘caster an extra shot.  On early turns it’s nice to get a free distance measurement as well.

Arcane Tempest Gun Mages

February 20th, 2012

I finished painting my ATGM a few weeks ago, but am just now getting around to posting the pictures to the site.  A reader of my Broken Egg Games Tournament Tray review on HCO asked for larger pictures of the ATGM, which has spurred me to actually get this post up.  I haven’t seen the original sculpt up close, but these new ATGM sculpts are very nice.  A lot of detail packed in, though painting both sides of their faces can prove difficult with those high collars.

For these guys I altered my painting technique.  Instead of using a base, two highlights and two shading colors and blending each into the others, I use a base, one highlight and one shade and did not blend them.  This resulted in a much faster paint job that still looks great on the table, but when you get the camera up close it really suffers.  If you are thinking of trying this technique to speed up your unit painting make sure to get some really deep shadows and some bright edge highlights to really get the models to pop.  Over all I give these guys an “Average Tabletop Quality”.
