#DonateOrPaint

February 25th, 2015

Nog challenged me for the #donateorpaint challenge and I managed to finish up Jakes in under 3 days:

I’m happy to have completed it in time with a decent paint job.  While I was initially pretty excited to paint this one, overall I found the model to be too busy.  Too many buckles and belts and pads and it all felt detrimental to painting the model.

To alleviate the bizarre downhill pose she came with I ended up sculpting a little hill on the base for her right foot to sit on in order to make her not be staring into the ground.  With the extra green stuff I made the little gray boulder in front of her.

And here’s the completed PG-exclusive “Sea” Wulfe.  It’s been finished for a while, but I needed PG_oxyguy to see it first in person.  With delivery complete, here’s a couple of pics that don’t really do it justice. (more…)

Gorman Di SeaWulfe – WIP #1

As you can see my first thought was I needed a base that looked like ship decking. Thankfully I had a leftover wood floor base that I had used for pCaine, from Enigma Miniatures.  This is a one-piece model so after cutting off the base tab and straightening his wilting dagger, we was ready to base.  I pinned his foot and drilled a suitable hole for the bottom of his peg leg and that’s provided a solid attachment to the base. Captain Allister Caine, from the trenches

Following on from my Caine2 repose, I’ve completed the paint job.  I think it came out well, though I’m not thrilled with the face, but the sculpt of the face only gives you so much to work with.  This model comes on the heels of my painting seminar with Meg Maples in Toronto.  I spent time concentrating on the two-brush blends and the usual dark shadows and bright highlights. Seeing it painted I really like how the repose came out.  It feels like he’s in the trench, defending his position by mowing down incoming infantry. (more…)
