Captain Allister Caine
Following on from my Caine2 repose, I’ve completed the paint job. I think it came out well, though I’m not thrilled with the face, but the sculpt of the face only gives you so much to work with. This model comes on the heels of my painting seminar with Meg Maples in Toronto. I spent time concentrating on the two-brush blends and the usual dark shadows and bright highlights. Seeing it painted I really like how the repose came out. It feels like he’s in the trench, defending his position by mowing down incoming infantry.
Above you can see a good profile of the muzzle flash/arcane bullet I’ve attached. During the repose I built this thing and couldn’t decide how I liked it so it is detachable by a pin that is inserted into the barrel of the pistol. After painting it I like it quite a bit, but I’m still on the fence. We’ll see what kind of reaction it gets, but the idea of the muzzle flash from the gunpowder launching the bullet, then the arcane magic surrounding the bullet.
The base was perfect for the pose I ended up with. Caine bracing his foot against the wall gives him just a bit of the nonchalance I’ve come to expect of Caine as he works his arcane gun magic.
The coat came out pretty well. I went to a shade of Battlefield Brown, up through ‘Jack Bone and to a final highlight of Menoth White Highlight/’Jack Bone.
