Hoarluk Doomshaper, Rage of Dhunia
My first Trollblood warlock: eDoomshaper. To start I want to run a big beast brick and that is eDoomshaper’s specialty. This model had a surprising amount of detail, but not a very wide color palette. Lots of browns. I did my best to differentiate the browns of his hood and clothes versus his leather embossed armor. For the armor I used the studio scheme and tried to keep the rest of the browns a bit lighter.
The rune-inscribed rocks on the staff were fun to paint. Not that I expect him to ever make much use of the staff. Things have probably gone awry if eDoomie is in melee. But with powerful attack, I suppose he could get a bit of work done, but he better finish the job if he wants to survive another turn.
There are so many scrolls attached to the model I wanted to try to differentiate them as much as I could to break it all up a bit. I used silver, brass and copper-colored scrolls ends to add some color variation. I also added some really dark washes in between the scrolls to help visually separate them, along with some bright highlights.
Let’s talk basing. I had always known I wanted my trolls to have swampy/forest themed bases. This is mainly from the fluff that talks about some of areas they common inhabit. And while they now are scattered and cover a variety of terrains, I was left with the impression of swamps and forests. This base is a Dragon Forge resin base from The Slate Wastes collection. I’ve decided all my Troll warlocks will be on these slate bases. Other Troll models will be in the same swamp/forest theme, but not elevated on slate like the casters. I used a variety of materials for basing, much more than I do for my Cygnar. I used a mixture of field grasses, some Army Painter Swamp Tufts and some GF9 Meadow Blend Flock. I also added a bit of Dark Green Leaf Litter. These bases are a lot busier than most of Cygnar bases have been, but I think it gives the swampy/forest feel I was going for, but it will continue to evolve as I experiment more with it.
