Ol’ Rowdy
Epic Stryker’s favorite ‘jack is ready for action. I wanted to keep making progress on getting my Cygnar fully painted, especially the pieces I’ve started using with my eStryker list, which leads quickly to Ol’ Rowdy. He has been assembled for quite some time, but before I went to paint him I decided to rebase him, switching from plastic to a metal base for better balance as Rowdy is top heavy. I also moved his feet back as far as I could to get his hammer closer to his own base so getting melee with other models would be easier.
The best looking part of my paint job for Ol’ Rowdy is definitely the Cygnus on top. It came out really nice. The shoulder armor blends didn’t come out as smooth as usual, but these are the kinds of things that happen when you take a hiatus from painting.
For the massive armor plate that dominates Ol’ Rowdy’s right shoulder I used the ‘Jack Bone/Menoth White Highlight color I use on all my Cygnar. This helps tie him into my army and makes him pop more than just an additional field of blue would. I also used this color as the background for the Storm Division insignia on his shoulder.
The rear is a fairly typical steam boiler setup but Ol’ Rowdy has two additional smoke stacks and more gauges and piping. For the gauge faces I used Menoth White Highlight and Skorne Red for the needles.
I went with dark greens for the serpent on the Scharde Invasions service marker just to make it a little more interesting than the black.
I wanted the Ol’ Rowdy model to feel similar to my eStryker, so I used a similar basing technique. I used a smaller piece of the shattered milliput to make small outcropping on Rowdy’s base and painted it to match eStryker’s base. I also used the same Army Painter Jungle Tufts as are found on eStryker’s base.
