Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord must be one of the most popular mercenary solos, especially for Cygnar. He’s often found paired up with Stormblade Infantry, boosting their survivability by granting them Tough. This is one of my favorite models. He’s good on the table, has a great model and the fluff is superb. I find myself including the Piper frequently so to extend my fully-painted army abilities, he was a good candidate. Especially with the completion of eStryker, the Piper will be seeing more use than ever.
I deviated from the studio paint scheme. I wanted a more colorful Piper, giving him a bit more of a gypsy feel. So the pants are based in Ordic Olive while the jacket is a mix of Sanguine Base and Beaten Purple. Then his sash is based in Skorne Red. Just as I included a bit of my Jack Bone/MWH Cygnar color on Harlan Versh, I decided to tie it in here as well on his studded shirt.
I made the bagpipes appear wooden with metallic accents. I can’t tell for sure on the studio model whether theirs is wood or solid metal. I thought the wood would be more interesting and help contrast the metallic elements. Also, to me at least, the thought of the bag pipes coming out of these huge wooden tubes seems like it would give it that more other-worldly quality that the fluff describes of his music. I did a free hand cross-hatch patter on the bag part itself, which I really enjoyed and I love how it came out.
The base for this one was a departure from my normal style. This is actually a Dragon Forge Cobblestone Base. I also attached an Army Painter Swamp Tuft to part of the broken area. I wanted the Piper walking down a road as that evoked the Pied Piper feeling to me, that he’s marching down a path.
