Harlan Versh, Illuminated One

Harlan Versh, Illuminated One

Another low-cost solo to help fill out fully painted lists, here is Harlan Versh.  The fist thing many will notice is that I added some color to Versh.  The artwork for Harlan is all browns, and it looks great, but on the table-top I didn’t think that much brown would be very eye-catching, maybe even a bit boring. So I decided to give him denim pants, a green waist coat and a while jacket.  Then for the hat and trench coat I went with tan.  He might not match his artwork, but he’s visually interesting.

This was a fun and quick model to paint.  He has a few small detail items, like the trinkets on this vest and his bandolier, but the model is dominated by his trench coat, which I used the tan formula from the FoW:Cygnar book for.  His inner jacket I used something close to my Cygnar white color, bringing it up to Morrow White at the edges, after all Versh is a Morrowan.

Morrowan tome in hand. Enkheiridion, perhaps?

I like that Harlan is holding a book in his off-hand, I based it with Skorne Red to make sure it popped from the rest of the model.  The symbol for the church of Morrow is on the front, so perhaps this is a copy of the Enkheiridion, or maybe just a useful tome for witch-hunting.

Not that he should be using it too frequently, but Versh does come with a mean looking sword.  Here you also get a look at Malleus, his quad iron.  I like Versh, the model, the fluff and the game play.  I think were he a RAT 7, instead of 6 he would be fielded much more frequently.  You need to hit to get his maximum four shots so targeting things over RAT 13 becomes questionable, plus it’s a lower-POW weapon so you’re going to be shooting infantry which tends to have a higher DEF, leaving Versh caught in the middle.  Of course his Purgation makes up from both the RAT and the POW as he gets an additional die on attack and damage rolls if the target has an upkeep on them.  Witch Hunter and Blessed ranged and melee weapons also add to his potential hitting and damage dealing.  Versh also brings along Sacred Ward, Stealth and 5 damage boxes to keep him alive long enough to take make it into range.
