Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
In my continuing effort to field fully-painted armies I’ve been targeting solos that either are or should be in many of my lists. eEiryss seemed like an excellent choice, though I don’t play her as often as I should, now that she’s painted there’s no excuse. I really enjoyed painting this model. Some nice details but not too cluttered. Hard to tell by the pictures, but I even went to the extent of putting some purple eyeshadow on her. I used some Midlund Flesh to tone down Beaten Purple for the eyeshadow and I think it subtly helps the eyes pop more. They eyes I painted first try, which is always a spectacular win in my book. To go complete her makeup I used Murderous Magenta, again toned down with some Midlund Flesh, for lipstick on the bottom lip.
Rather than having the epic-base represent the top of a tall building, I decided it would instead be lower to the ground (more sensical on the battlefield at least) as if it were part of an old gate around a cemetary that had been neglected. Some dark earth and swamp tufts completed the base. The bricks were a nice challenge. I used mixtures of Skorne Red, Umbral Umber and Ironhull Grey to make different reds and browns. I kept all the colors overly bright, knowing I would then apply heavy green and brown washes to simulate years of rain. Once completed this really desaturated the colors nicely, bringing the focus back to Eiryss.
The golds were done with P3 Rhulic Gold. Having acquired a pot of the black-label mixture I wanted to give it a shot. It works very well, much improved over the previous white-label version.
The cloak I wish I had got once shade brighter with. It ended up feeling a little darker than I intended. The blends, especially the highlights could also have been smoother. The feathers came out nicely, but I should have gone brighter with the whites of the feathers. I applied a thin wash but it was too much and really knocked the feathers down.
Overall I like how this one turned out. I’m very pleased with the face, having never tried eye-shadow before, plus her eyes came out very nicely. She’s ready for the tabletop and now it’s on to more solos to fill out lists.
