Storm Strider

Storm Strider – Crawling across the battlefield

At long last I’ve completed the Storm Strider.  This thing was a ridiculous amount of work.  When I first got it assembled I thought there wasn’t much detail, this thing would be done in no time. WRONG. Painting all those blue glowing circles and the gold rings that surround them takes a significant amount of time, and I didn’t even blend them.  All in all this is one of my least favorite models. I didn’t like assembling it and I didn’t like painting it. I can only hope it plays well on the table.

Due to my poor assembling skills, in order for the platform to be level one foot is on the sandbags, one is on an improvised hill, the third is nearly off the edge of the base and the last is way up in the air.

The two included Stormsmiths are similar to the regular Stormsmiths and I did my best to paint them the same as my last three.

As you’ll recall from the WIP #1, the legs refuse to stay attached to the main body. I had another leg break off while attaching it to the base. Overall a good stiff breeze will probably cause this model to buckle under its own weight. I think the bad paint job stemmed from the horrible molding job compounded by the terrible assembling experience.  Rather than continue to rant on about it, I’ll just show some more pics.

Rear view, showing the barbed wire surrounding the sandbag bunker.

The base I kept similar to the Stormwall’s, but there is a lot more open space here, especially with my poor leg placements, so I should have figured out something else of interest to add to the center area.

Another view of showing the “driver”

It’s coming straight for us! Though with circular vision it doesn’t matter much.

Comparison to the Stormwall

I thought the Stormwall was significantly larger than the Strider, but it’s pretty much even as far as height is concerned.  The Stormwall feels like it has more volume and is much more imposing.
